Lake Jocassee is nestled into the northwestern mountains of South Carolina . It is a pristine and primitive lake almost entirely surrounded by the Sumter National Forest, making it one of the few lakes in the country that is protected by state owned property that prevents commercial development anywhere on its shores and limits residential development to the few houses that currently exist. The uniqueness and beauty of the area cannot be expressed by words alone - you just have to experience it for yourself. It is fed by numerous mountain rivers and streams and is well known for its incredible waterfalls, lush vegetation, world class fishing and diverse wildlife. The lake was built by Duke Power and was at full pond in 1974. A few years later, Hoyetts Grocery & Tackle was opened as the areas only provider of groceries, bait and tackle. Since that time, Hoyetts has become known not only for its infamous "Hoyt Dogs", but they also serve as the lakes information center with expert advice on things to do and places to go.
In 2005, Hoyetts was renamed the " Jocassee Outdoor Center " (JOC), a new building was completed, new outdoor services were announced, and a vast line of new products and food services were made available. We invite you to visit us and enjoy JOC's country store ambiance and explore the beauty of Lake Jocassee for yourself.
We can serve all of your needs on Lake Jocassee! Rent a boat or charter a lake tour, kayak to the waterfalls, fish for world class Trout and Bass or simply relax on a bank under a shade tree with an RC Cola and a Moon Pie. Whatever your choice, you can be assured that it will be time well spent!
